Sometimes we all get inspired and that inspiration takes us change things.. Do things like they were never done before. I should say some people get inspired…. because I don’t think I have been inspired to change things… may be in smaller ways but not that makes significant changes…
A few years back I heard a TED talk which was quite popular… It was by Ron Finley the Guerilla Gardner… And he says… which I agree “Yeah! Let’s Plant some Shit”
Ron Finley is a LA based Fashion Designer and urban planner and he plants vegetable gardens in South Central LA — in abandoned lots, traffic medians, along the curbs. Why? For fun, for defiance, for beauty and to offer some alternative to fast food in a community where “the drive-thrus are killing more people than the drive-bys.”
He started by digging up a strip of land between his house and the street and started planting fruits and vegetables… This was illegal back then to plant between the curb and street and then he worked to change the Los Angeles laws.. That I think is inspired to make changes that matter to the world we live in..
That said I should confess that I too eat Fast Food but do it like many others with a serious sense of guilt. But one thing Ron talks really hit me. Kids will eat the vegetables they grow and so it should be adultly proportional that “We will eat the vegetables we grow…”
Again I have realized my limitations and lack of priorities.. We sure did start a vegetable garden.. I helped but it was all my daughter’s project and even now it is she who manages it.. may be things need to be priorities and will do that post winter… Watch his video and you all might be more motivated than me….
